The lungs hold onto the sadness.
(with the power the Salem Witch Trials had over us)
Soon cancer will make toast of ambition.
Heartbreaker, all jazzed up
in hot pink, stumbling into our kitchen
late, late
for relief in some domestic revelation.

LYNN STRONGIN as born in New York City in 1939. She grew up there and in various areas of the South, both of which shaped her vision of
America and the texture of its tongues. Branching out further geographically, she moved to Canada twenty-five years ago and has made it her home. Musical studies led to writing poetry. She worked for Denise Levertov in the 60s in politically active Berkeley and has been writing ever since. By mid-year Lynn will have ten published books, and works in over thirty anthologies and fifty-five journals. Recently, her work was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
