Ship's Cook
By Heather Inwood

You are the helmsman
And I am the hen
That sat on the stern
And laid eggs all day
That smashed on impact
And made a right mess.

You are the rudder
And I am the cow
With the whopping great udder
That leaked persistently
And left a long milky trail
Around the deck.

You are the mast
And I am the cook
With the floury arse that
Collapsed in the puddle
Of sticky gloop at
Port and at starboard.

You are the jib
And I am the jive
That boogied around on my bum
In the baking sun
And you objected and called it
A Big Mistake
But I was content
And called it
Cake.
